BIG EDITORIAL

Tired of high gas prices .... then DO something about it!

The American public (read: WE) have the power to drive down gas prices in our own hands ... everytime we turn on the ignition or go to the pump.

What happens when home sales drop? Prices go down and incentives go up!
What happens when auto sales drop? Durable goods? It goes on and on.

If "we" would readjust our driving, cut out unnecessary trips, consolidate the necessary one, we could lower our dependence on oil.

But you read about it all the time: "AAA reports drivers concerned over price of gas but say it will not change their driving/vacation/trip plans!"

All this bandaid surgery isn't going to do squat. We can (slowly) improve the fuel economy of our vehicles, go to war or even hold gas-outs until we're burried in $5/gallon gas and it won't do a bit of good until we understand and accept that it's WE who control the price.

Sure it would be "inconvenient" ... but isn't the price we're paying at the pump inconvenient? How about those on fixed incomes? Do you think our parents and grandparents can afford $2.60 a gallon as well as bills and food?

Wake up America! We have found the problem and it is us.

Sounds easy, however there are a few things to consider.

Gasoline has what the encomiast calls an ³inelastic demand curve². In other
words, the price of and availability of gasoline does not affect the demand
for gasoline. Additionaly, the price of fuel has not reached the point
where it is truly causing pain. At this time its merely an irritant. In
fact the average family spends 4.x % of its annual income for energy,
whereas in the 70¹s we spent 7.x %. The current price of gasoline is still
cheap compared with most of the world and untill it hits about $5.xx per gal
will it start to impact the average family negatively.

Gas outs: Won¹t and don¹t work UNLESS you don¹t drive that day. Now if
everyone in the US said and X day, not only will we not buy gas, but we
won¹t drive either, then we could make a statement, no more, no less.

Those that own the oil, don¹t care, remember they are the same ones that
were involved in 9-11. The Saudi¹s are pulling in about a $ Billion a day
in US dollars x 24 x 365, you think they care? Know who Osama Bin Laden
is...a member of the ROYAL FAMILY.

Yea, its time to wake up America, tell Cindy Shehan, moveon.org, Jesse
Jackson and the Congressional Black Caucus, Klinton, Kennedy and any other
socialist, let the government be in charge of it jerk to go take a hike.
America has done more for this world in the past 200 years than all the
worlds other people and countries have in all of known history. And, most
of it has taken place in the past 60 years since WWII. There is not a
bouncing Betty or swinging Richard in the world that is not sucking at the
teat of American invention, and progress socially and economically in some
shape form or fashion. Those who haven¹t reaped the rewards of America¹s
harvest are living under the heavy hand of a dictator whose view on society
is ³what's mine is mine and what's yours is mine also [sound like big
government taking all of your money?]. Yet still the people struggle and
try to get their butt on a train, boat, plane or just walk to get to this
country to live under our republic and a capital market system.

Yea, your right, its time to wake up America.

PS: One hellva hurricane just hit and tore Louisiana and Mississippi a new
anal ejection chute. Wonder how many folks from around the world will send
a check and show up to help out and clean up? Some will say will its our
fault, they hate us and we don¹t know why, but they just do. Maybe it has
something to do with the fact that we have done more in 60 years than they
have done since the dawn of man.

Hope they get the message on Iraq. Don¹t sell me your oil, I¹ll come take
and pack a pound of sand up your anal ejection chute while I am at it.

Thank You,
Don

I changed the subject line and I am sending these "Words of Wisdom" to all
of my "Friends and Family" as a little reminder of what is in store for us.
To get to the heart of the problem you only need to look around you as you
drive down that highway or freeway and count how many cars can qualify to
run in the "Carpool Lane" ! Give me a break there is our problem! I was in
Europe last may and I was amazed at how few cars had only one person in them
Of course, you say, they are paying the $5.00 euros for what we are
bitching about $2.60for gas. When you get through converting to gallons and
dollars it is getting closer to $10.00. At least I haven't found anywhere
that you have to pay $.60 in euros cents to go pee in this country like you
do over there. ---- George

You are totally right. People will buy a house on the other side of town
from where they work because it is newer and cheaper. Then they will drive 45
miles one way to work, by themselves. Look at the freeway any morning or
afternoon at "drive" time. 90% of the vehicles have one person in them.
You can bet $3 gas will be here in Sept and when it hits $5, and you can bet it
will, it will stay there. Just like gold and other precious metals, black
gold is going to find its high price and level off there. The investors are
counting on it, the money people are driving up the cost of oil, what do they
care, they can afford it. Why, because you have told the oil companies that
no matter how much gas costs, you are going to buy it and buy it in the same
quantities you have bought it in past and more. I get tired of people
whining, like my dad, who just bought an 05 Grand with a hemi and then tells me
someone has to do something about the gas, that it just cost him $60 to fill up.
He is retired but he runs 10 miles into town everyday to buy a newspaper
when he can have it delivered to his door for less. I am just as guilty but I
traded my V-8 5.9 Grand (that my dad said I was crazy for getting a V-8
because of milage) for a 4.0 Grand 3 months ago. It still costs me $60 to fill up
now but I go about 100 or so more miles per tank than my dads hemi does. Am
I happy, no, but I will still waste trips, I still like to take the rice
rockets on at the traffic lights and like my dad and the rest of us will continue
to pay the price at the pump, $3, $4, $5 a gallon or more.
